2007 Road Trip Notes

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Wednesday, July 25, 2007 We got up at 6:30 and the kids got up at 7:00. We left at 7:39. We had breakfast of muffins and donut holes. We took Highway 1 to Banff. It was 50 degrees and sunny with white clouds, grey clouds, and blue sky. Banff has animal overpasses. I saw a deer beside the road. Zach wouldn’t give me any points for the spot because no one else saw it. I told the Point Nazi to write down the point system and sign it before we got to Yellowstone. Ron said it was like figure skating, just whatever you felt like. Sarah said it was like the umpire rule, which said if there was no rule whatever the umpire said was the ruling. At 8:19 we took 93 south. We saw several guys by a dumpster peeing. Maybe we should call this trip the “Pee Trip”. We left Banff at 8:28. We entered Kootenay Park at 8:28. We entered British Columbia at 8:29. We had been in Alberta. It was 49 degrees. We saw a helicopter just sitting on the ground next to the road. At 8:38 we stopped at Numa Falls. It was 46 degrees. It was very cold, especially next to the falls. We had our 47 ½ BB. We left at 8:51. It was a very pretty waterfall. We drove through some burned areas with lots of dead trees. Ron saw a deer right beside the road in short, very short grass. We stopped at 9:43. It was 58 degrees, sunny and clear. It was our 48 ½ BB. We left at 9:54. We entered Radium Hot Springs at 10:01. We stopped at 10:02 and walked to the hot springs pool. We also looked in the gift shop for charms. They did not have any. We used our 49 ½ BB and left at 10:33. We left Kootenay Park at 10:36 and took 95 south at 10:38. I saw a big nest with a bird sitting on the side of the nest. The bird was dark brown with a white head. An eagle. Ron saw an Osprey and nest. We saw a sign for Fairmont Hot Springs, “Our Warmth Comes Naturally”. We stopped in Fairmont to look for charms. Did not have any, but Ron and Sarah had their picture made with a funny looking bear. We let at 11:14. We stopped at 11:56 at a picnic area. The picnic area had rest rooms, so we stopped to eat lunch. It was by the Kootenay River. We also had our 50 ½ BB. The women’s bathroom door had been notched out so it would clear the toilet. We left at 12:30. We followed 93/95 south. We stopped at Fort Steele at 12:48 looking for charms. They did not have any charms. We left at 1:04 and took 3 east at 1:09. We took Highway 93 to the US border at 1:44. We turned into the Country Treasure at 2:03 to look for charms, but it did not look promising, so we did not stop. We left at 2:04. This is a very pretty drive. Tree covered mountains and lots of lakes and rivers with very pretty, clear water. We reached the US Border at Roosville, Montana at 2:09. There were several cars ahead of us. We saw a semi drive through the Rapiscan machine. We got to the guard gate at 2:20. We left at 2:22 with no problems. We were asked: Do we have any beef products, including wieners. Do we have any alcohol, tobacco or firearms? Do we have more than $6,100 in cash? Do we have any citrus? It’s good to be back in the good ole USA! We stopped at 2:30 at Exxon for our 51 ½ BB. It was 85 degrees, sunny with a few white clouds. We left at 2:38. It was a very busy place. Sarah saw a sign for a hair salon that said, “The Main Event”. We passed some really pretty lakes with clear water. We took Highway 93 south to Kalispell at 3:32. We stopped in Whitefish at Safeway for drinks at 3:34. It was 86 degrees. We restocked our supplies. We did not have to pay a quarter for the shopping cart. Yea!! It was a great Safeway. We left at 4:11 We turned left on 40 east at 4:15. We reached the campground at 4:20. We had ridden 1,101.0 miles. Sarah learned a new word: Piddlefart We decided to go to KFC for supper. We left at 5:47. The KFC was in Columbia Falls. We stopped at an Exxon station for gas. It was $2.99 a gallon. We had been 309.9 miles since our last fill up and 3,694.1 total miles. We left at 5:55 and got to the KFC at 6:00. We got a bucket of chicken. It was very good. We left at 6:27. We got back to the camper at 6:33. Our trip into Canada was very fun, pretty, and expensive.
