Granny and Grandpa Uncle johny's site Sheila's road trip notes 2007 Road Trip Notes |
Sunday, July 22nd, 2007 Sunday, July 22, 2007 We got up at sometime. Granny made yummy cinnamon rolls. They had risen out of the pans, but they were still very good. We unloaded the Suburban so we could put the back, back seat up. We left and went to pay for more nights at the campground office. We left the campground at 9:31 going to Glacier National Park. It was sunny with very few white clouds and 76 degrees. We stopped for gas in Columbia Falls at an Exxon Station at 9:36. The gas was $2.99. We had been 256.0 miles since our last fill up. We have been a total of 2,385.1 miles. We left the station at 9:53. While we were sitting at the gas station, we made reservations for Monday night in Canmore, Canada. We are staying there on Tuesday night, but we decided to go a day early and have more time in Banff National Park. We took highway 2 to West Glacier. At 10:11 we turned into Gateway to Glacier National Park. We stopped at 10:13 at the park sign to take a picture. We left at 10:20. Remember there are 6 of us now. It takes a while to load and unload. Grandpa asked Zach if he know how a mule eats corn. Zach said he did. Sarah said she did too, but Zach said just the other day Sarah had asked how did a mule eat corn. No corn was eaten today. We entered the park 10:29. There was a line at the gate and we had to wait in line. We stopped at the visitor center at 10:33. We had our 35 ½ bathroom break. We left at 10:47. We drove by Lake McDonald which is a very pretty lake. There were lots of dead trees on the other side of the lake. At 11:02, it was 69 degrees and sunny with some clouds. We stopped and looked at the river. It was very pretty with blue/green water. We saw a homemade truck camper. The McDonald Creek is very clear. It looks like it runs over rocks. There was no silt in it. The mountains are very green and rugged. Of course when we stopped to look at the creek, Zach threw rocks across the creek. We are going to the “Going to the Sun Road”. At 11:43 there was a tunnel with view ports. It was very cool. We also saw the Weeping Wall, there was water running down the rocks. We stopped at Logan’s Pass Visitor Center at 12:17. The Continental Divide elevation was 6,646 feet. The parking lot was full and we decided to go on. We left at 12:21. At 12:33 we passed through another tunnel. Zach saw a big horn sheep. We stopped for our 36 ½ bathroom break at 12:37. We left at 12:48. It was a very pretty place with ok pit toilets. The Glacier National Park has lots of mountains with green trees and waterfalls. We stopped at Sun Picnic Area at 12:53. We found a table at 12:56. It was not a very good picnic area. It was a large dirt parking area with tables along the edges. We left the picnic area at 1:24. It was 79 degrees and sunny with some white clouds. Saint Mary’s Lake was very pretty with blue/green water. We left the park at 1:47 and took 89 north to Babb. Then we took another road to Many Glacier. This was a rough road. We entered the park at 2:10. We had our first bear sighting at 2:25. There were 2 bears, possibly cubs down by Lake Sherburne. We watched them for a while. They played in the lake and then got out and chased one another. We left at 2:33. We saw a sign that said “Do Not Feed Bighorn Sheep”. That was not what we were expecting. We got to the end of road at 2:52. Sarah said, “When possible make a legal u-turn.” We stopped at 2:54 for our 37 ½ bathroom break. We left at 3:01. Ron spotted the elusive dead log (thought it was a bighorn sheep). We left Many Glacier at 3:14. We stopped at 2:54 for our 37 ½ bathroom break. We left at 3:01. We left Many Glacier at 3:14. It was 84 degrees and sunny with white clouds. We returned to Glacier National Park at 3:38. We got in line behind a Park Ranger who was talking to the ranger in the booth. Zach said, “If he didn’t move soon, we would approach and feed wildlife, leave food unattended and stop in no stopping zones.” He finally finished his conversation and moved on. We did not have to pay, because we have a park pass. At 4:05, we saw 2 bighorn sheep. We stopped at Logan’s Pass Visitor Center at 4:09. We parked at 4:11. There were lots of people. We left at 4:42. We used our 38 ½ break. We saw a ground squirrel. We saw 6 mountain goats just after leaving the visitor center. There were 2 babies too. We saw an eagle flying next to McDonald Lake. We stopped at the visitor center at Apgar Village at 5:44. Sarah and Granny bought charms. We left at 5:57. We left the park at 6:02. We decided to drive to Kalispell and look for somewhere to eat supper. We saw a deer right beside Highway 2. We decided to eat at Perkins. We reached Perkins at 6:39. It was 95 degrees, sunny with some white clouds. There was a 30 minutes wait for food at the Perkins. Everyone was full when we left. It was good. We let at 7:54. We left and went to Wal-Mart. We got to the Wal-Mart at 7:58. It was not a super Wal-Mart. We have become spoiled on the SuperCenter Wal-Marts. We got ice and chips. We left at 8:27. That was not a fun Wal-Mart. We got back to the camper at 8:42. We are staying in the Glacier Peak RV. Ron left and went to get gas before we leave for Canada in the morning. It has been 207.6 miles since our last fill up. We have been 2,592.7 total miles. Sarah finished the Harry Potter book. She really liked it. |
